Subnet Calculator CIDR Range ToolWhat Is My IP Address?
Your public IP address is the unique identifier your Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns whenever you connect to the internet. Every server you contact can see it — think of it as your online postal code. Use this tool to find yours instantly, with no account required and nothing stored.
Common reasons to check your IP address:
- Confirm that a VPN is genuinely masking your connection
- Diagnose connectivity or firewall problems
- Verify whether your ISP has changed your address
- Understand what your connection exposes when you browse online
What Is an IP Address?
IP stands for Internet Protocol — the foundational set of rules that lets devices communicate across networks. Every device that joins a network receives a numerical label so that routers know exactly where to forward data.
Two versions are in active use today:
- IPv4 — 32-bit addresses expressed as four dot-separated numbers (e.g. 203.0.113.42). The total pool of roughly 4.3 billion addresses is nearly exhausted.
- IPv6 — 128-bit addresses in colon-separated hexadecimal groups (e.g. 2001:db8::1). The address space is vast enough to serve every device on earth for the foreseeable future.
How This Tool Works
When you click the reveal button, the page reads your public IP from Cloudflare's network trace endpoint — the same infrastructure that serves this site. No third-party lookup service is contacted, nothing is logged, and the result is displayed only in your browser.
Your Privacy
We collect nothing. No IP address, no browsing behaviour, no analytics. The only cookies present belong to Google AdSense for ad delivery; you can manage or opt out at any time via Google's ad settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my public IP address visible to websites I visit?
Yes. Every HTTP request your browser sends includes your public IP so the server knows where to deliver the response. This is a normal, required part of how the internet works.
Can an IP address reveal my exact home address?
No. At most it narrows your location to a city or ISP region. Obtaining a specific physical address from an IP alone requires a formal legal process involving the ISP.
Does this tool store or track my data?
No. There is no database behind this page. Your IP is fetched, shown on screen, and never transmitted to any server we operate.
Can my IP address change?
Yes. Most residential ISPs issue dynamic addresses that can change when you restart your router or after a lease period. Businesses often pay for static IPs. If you use a VPN, the address shown will be the VPN server's IP, not your actual connection's.
How can I hide my IP address?
The most practical method is a VPN, which routes your traffic through a server elsewhere and shows that server's IP to the outside world. Other options include the Tor browser or a proxy service. Restarting your router may also give you a new address if your ISP uses dynamic allocation.
